Rules
SWIM MEET RULES
- Coaches should be made aware of any scratches ASAP -- a least two days notice should be given. You must sign the scratch sheet for each meet that you will not be attending.
- You may be ineligible to swim at the next meet if you do not let the coaches know in advance of a meet you will not be attending. This rule is made because you will be put into the lineup unless you have told the coaches that you will not be there...therefore, you will be taking the place in an event that could have been given to another swimmer.
- Please be prompt to each meet. Saturday meets start at 8:00 a.m. Be there by 7:00 a.m. for home meets, 7:30 a.m. for away meets. Wednesday meets start at 6:00 p.m. Be there by 5:00 for home meets, 5:30 for away meets.
- During the meets, swimmers are encouraged to stay in their teams designated areas.
- Swimmers are expected to give complete attention and cooperation to the coaches at all times.
- Swimmers will be expected to swim the events that they are assigned by the coaches. This program is 'COMPETITIVE" swim. The head coach makes out the best lineup in an attempt to win the meet. Your child will at times have to swim an event that is not his/her best in order to help the team.
- Good sportsmanship is expected at all times. Encourage and applaud swimmers of all abilities.
- Playground equipment is off limits for swimmers and spectators.
- No touching the water or jumping into the pool without the approval of the starter/referee.
- Swimmers and spectators must be quit at the start of each race.
- Swimmers are not to leave the meets early without talking first to the coach. You may be in a relay. If the coach entered you in a relay and you are not there, the entire relay team is ineligible. Many meets are decided by the outcome of the relays.
- At the end of the meet, no swimmer may enter the water or push another swimmer into the water. Such action would cause our team to forfeit the meet.
- NO SMOKING is permitted on the pool deck at outdoor pools. As of July 1, 1993, smoking is prohibited on school property at all times.
- Points are awarded in the 5 individual events at 5 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, 1 point for 3rd place. Ribbons are given through 6th place. Relays are scored 7 points for 1st place, 0 points for 2nd place. The fastest swimmers usually swim the relays.
