Each home meet requires about 35 adults. Away meets require approximately 25.
Please indicate your preferred assignment. Specific duties include:
Set Up & Take Down
This job requires 2 people to arrive approximately one hour before a home meet to put in lane lines, set up scoring tables, etc. At the end of the meet all equipment must be stored properly. Everyone is asked to help clean up the pool area.
Timers/Head Timer
Timers are assigned the duty of taking accurate times for their assigned lanes and following all instructions given by the head official. Digital watches, with readouts to the hundredth place, are used and provided. One timer for each lane is designated as the "recorder" and that individual records all times on the card and checks to make sure that the swimmer in that particular lane is the one that has been assigned that lane. Timers should arrive 20 minutes prior to the start of the meet. We need at least 20 timers at every meet !! This ensures that there are relief timers and each timer only has to time one half of the meet.
PLEASE DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED – we all timed our first time at some point. There are three timers per lane and mistakes do happen . . . this is not the Olympics and while you should do your best, there are two other timers in your lane if you do make a mistake. Timing is one of the easiest jobs. There is the added bonus of meeting our swimmers and being able to cheer front row!!!
