Hanson, Crippen check in from Open Water Team Training Camp

2010 World Open Water World Championships Teamer Emily Hanson recently checked in from the team’s training camp in Quebec. Hanson will compete in the 25k at the Open Water World Championships. The competition, which includes open water races in the 5k, 10k and 25k, begins July 17. Also, be sure to check out the SwimCam Gallery from the camp

Three meet records fall on final night in LA

Olympians Dana Vollmer, Rebecca Soni and Japan’s Kosuke Kitajima each set meet records Sunday on the final night of the LA Grand Prix. Vollmer set the meet record in the women’s 100m butterfly with a time of 57.39, while Soni and Kitajima set the marks in the women’s and men’s 100m breaststroke in 1:06.23 and 1:00.82.

Shannon Gillespy, the Open Water World Championships Team Manager for the U.S. Team, recently checked in from the team’s training camp in Quebec. The competition, which includes open water races in the 5k, 10k and 25k, begins Saturday, July 17.

Hoff breaks 10-year-old meet record in LA

It was a big night for American Olympians Saturday at the LA Grand Prix. First, Kara Lynn Joyce and Nathan Adrian won their second events of the meet, taking the women’s and men’s 50m freestyle. A short time later, Katie Hoff set the meet record in the women’s 400m free with a time of 4:06.21.

Ziegler sets meet record for second time in LA

2008 Olympian Kate Ziegler opened the LA Grand Prix Thursday night by setting the meet record in the prelims of the women’s 800m freestyle. In Friday’s finals, Ziegler shattered that mark by more than five seconds, turning in a time of 8:25.89.

Christine Jennings: Open Water Champion

Fighting a nasty, draining head cold, Christine Jennings persevered. A week removed from winning her first Open Water National Championship (5K), Jennings made the trip to Mission Viejo, Calif., last weekend to compete in the Meet of Champions.

Eight open water swimmers named to Pan Pac Team

USA Swimming today named eight open water swimmers to the U.S. roster for the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships. The swimmers, including Olympian Chloe Sutton (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Pan American Games gold medalist Fran Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.), will compete in the 10K race taking place in Long Beach, Calif., on August 22.

Deadline of Scholastic All-America is Aug. 1

MORSE, ARMSTRONG TO HEAD JUNIOR PAN PACS TEAM

USA Swimming today announced the head coaches for the 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championships. Leading the team at the competition in Maui (August 26-30) will be John Morse of the Nashville Aquatic Club and Scott Armstrong of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club.

2010 OPEN WATER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM ROSTER ANNOUNCED

The top eight open water swimmers in the U.S. will head to Roberval, Québec, Canada for the 6th FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships, July 15-23. The U.S. Team will be lead by 10K National Champion Fran Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) and 2009 Open Water World Championship team member Eva Fabian (Keene, N.H. ).

JENNINGS AND CULLOM EACH COLLECT FIRST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

Following the 10K open water national championship race, which took place on Friday, the Open Water National Championships concluded on Sunday with the 5K race. Christine Jennings, who earned silver in the 10K race, won her first national championship title with a win in the women’s 5K in a time of 59:45:7.

CRIPPEN, SUTTON ARE OPEN WATER 10K NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

World Championship bronze medalist Fran Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) and Olympian Chloe Sutton (Mission Viejo, Calif.) became the 2010 USA Swimming National Champions in the 10K Open Water race at today's Open Water National Championships in Long Beach, Calif. The win is the first Open Water National Championship for Crippen and third for Sutton ('06, '07, '10).

MELISSA MARIK: ENJOYING THE RIDE
